About me
My name is Henriette and I am a student at the Folkestone School for Girls. I am lucky enough to have been given the opportunity by my school to participate in an expedition to Ecuador in the summer of 2014.
In this four week expedition I will be participating in a range of projects including: community development work such as helping build a school; wildlife conservation, for example reforestation; and an adventure element, which includes a scuba diving course.
The main aims of these projects are to:
· Raise the educational and living standards of developing communities in rural districts of Ecuador.
· Assist with ongoing wildlife conservation programmes to preserve biodiversity and protect vulnerable habitats.
This unique opportunity is extremely important to me since as well as assisting in the development of Ecuador I believe I will acquire and develop important life skills through teaching underprivileged schoolchildren and observing the interaction between the environment and the indigenous inhabitants. Moreover, it is my goal to help with the development of these communities and their surrounding environment, and to do something, may it be as little as planting a tree, to contribute towards the future prosperity of the country and its people. I am particularly looking forward to experiencing the diverse culture and breathtaking landscapes that are awaiting me.
My share of the cost of this venture is £4,000, of which about two-thirds is to be devoted to providing materials and support in Ecuador, and the remaining third to getting there and staying for a month. As it is a condition of my participation that I raise these funds myself, I would be extremely grateful for any contribution you can make to help me achieve this goal. I have already arranged several prospective work experience jobs, and will be organising other cash raising events of my own. If you wish to be kept abreast of these activities, please do email me by completing the form that comes up when you click on "CONTACT ME" at the top of this page; you will then be alerted to the latest updates when posted on this website.
I thank you in anticipation.
